Kids' Bulletin Board

School Work and Art Work

The children have recently started a new art program. They are starting with watercolor and will progress through various media including acrylics, pastels, charcoals and oil paints learning techniques for each. It is an exciting opportunity for them to develop their art skills and express themselves. Hopefully, this gallery will grow and be an outlet for them to share their creativity. I imagine it won't be long before each will want their own gallery to show off their works.

Watercolor Washes Layering washes
Recent lessons include watercolor washes (above is example of "wet-on-wet" wash), wash layering for color effects (above right), and brush strokes (right). Brush stroke practice

The first watercolor project was a storm scene using only grays. You can see how nicely they were able to create an effective depiction using the wash techniques they learned. Storm scene
country path The second project was a scene of a windy country path. The watercolor's delicate effect makes it hard to scan nicely, but if you look closely, you can make out a winding path through the middle of the picture and some bushes as well as a stand of trees on the hill.
